Instructions for Downloading Microsoft Windows 11 for Personally Owned Computer

Eligibility and Licensing Information

Please review the following information provided in its entirety before downloading Windows 11 and other Microsoft products through Microsoft Education Hub.

Windows at Stanford

Faculty, Staff and Students: Microsoft does not grant a perpetual Windows licensing rights for personally owned computer. Under current Microsoft licensing terms, institution-provided Windows licenses do not continue after a student's or an eligible user’s affiliation with Stanford ends. Individuals who wish to continue using Windows on a personally owned computer after leaving Stanford are responsible for obtaining their own valid Windows license.

Before you begin

  • Open an InPrivate (Microsoft Edge) or Incognito Chrome) browser window.
  • Clear your browser's cache and cookies before proceeding.

Instructions

  1. Go to the Microsoft Education Verification
  2. Sign in using your Stanford University email address.
  3. Complete the verification process and accept any required Terms and Conditions. Microsoft may ask you to verify your academic affiliation before granting access to Education Hub benefits.
  4. After verification is complete, you should be directed to the Education | Overview page.
  5. In the left navigation menu, expand Learning Resources and select Software.
  6. Using the small search bar, search the specific software that you would like to download (Windows 11) and select the product.
  7. Select Download to download the installation media.
  8. If a product key is provided, select View Key to display and save the product key. Product keys are typically unique to each software title and are required to activate the software after installation.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to install and activate your software (Windows 11 Education).
